Safe movie review

Well it has to be said, that the action genre has not been up to standards lately, and it seems like the action era has ended by the end of the 90s, until Statham showed up !!

this movie is one of the better entertaining action movies in recent years, I really enjoyed every part of it and it took me back to the Die Hard and 90s years when action films were on top.

Don't get me wrong, its not a perfect film or an Oscar nominated movie, but it truly does deliver pure entertainment and an enjoyable movie experience.

the movie is somewhat similar to 1998 Mercury Rising starring the one and only Bruce Willis, only Safe was more brutal and much more action packed !! sorry Bruce

it revolves around a broken and fallen ex-cop Luke Wright " Statham " who lost almost everything in his life and who hit rock bottom, but once his path is crossed by the young and helpless Chinese girl Mei who is being hunted by every scum bag and corrupt cop in NYC because of her possession of a safe code, the inner fighter in Luke wakes up and now he has a new goal in life, protect Mei and bring down the bad guys !! the plot sounds like something that Jackie Chan would usually do, thankfully, the role fell to Statham who really made the difference here !!

I like Jackie Chan, but come on, he is not brutal enough !

A very well written script for a simple plot, very fast paced and not to mention action packed, Statham really stretches his muscles here, lots of well choreographed fighting sequences, some fantastic shoot out scenes one of which takes place in a night club that was adrenaline pumping, the action was brutal.

I also liked how they gathered around some very good actors playing the villains or bad guys, characters ranging from Russian mobsters to Chinese gangsters and even corrupt Cops.

I strongly believe that Jason Statham has emerged as the new action star of the new millennium, he is what Van Damme, Scwharezzenger and Stallone were in the 90s, he has all what it takes to be the ultimate action star and his acting is pretty good too. I can't deny the efforts of Stallone to bring the action genre back with his newest movies like the Expendables 2, but for now, Statham is on top.

so in short, out of all those B grade action films out there, its nice to see a very well crafted action packed movie that is pure entertainment, thank you Statham !!

Freelancers movie review

So this movie is not perfect by any means, not the best movie out there, but also not as half bad as people are saying in their reviews, and that it is a copycat of Training day.

first, it has nothing to do with Training Day, and actually they are two different movies with very very minor similarities. this movie is actually more like Street Kings starring Keanu Reeves which deals with bad cops and one particular cop " 50 Cent " who starts to develop some conscious and digs into the mystery of who killed his father who was also a cop a long time ago.

he is taken under the wing of big time cop who was also his father's partner, played by Robert Deniro, who is also a bad cop and a drug dealer, aided by his right hand played by Forest Whitakar.

the acting from those giants was excellent as usual, and really lifted this movie up for me, it is such a joy to watch Deniro acting. Now 50 Cents acting is average at best, but his acting sort of served his character's role in this film, he seemed cold and devoid of emotions which was quite a reflection of his character in the film, so it worked out well for him, but there is no denying his below average acting.

the story definitely has several weak points, and as one reviewer already mentioned, characters shift suddenly in their behaviors, nevertheless, i wasn't expecting a well crafted master piece of a film, but rather a nice little drama with big names and wonderful performances with a story that held my attention enough.

I might be biased here, because I'm a big fan of the police Drama genre like Cop land, Street Kings and this movie, but for what its worth, i thought this movie was better than Son of no one, which is also a police drama starring another legend Al Pacino and Channing Tatum.

Cat Run movie review

I would have to say that after watching this film that it is a flawed but entertaining R rated film.

its an action comedy movie that involves a female escort who witness a goverment cover up of a crime and is then hunted by the people trying to cover it up, aided by two unlikely private detectives to expose the crime and escape the ruthless assassins sent to elimante her.

quite the simple plot yet filled with all sort of characters from funny and silly like Jullian played by Alphonso Mcauley to cold blooded killers like Helen played by Janet Mcteer who for me really stole the show with her brilliant peroformance as the british assassin, absolutely loved her !

the movie is a mixture of Action and Comedy which could work for and against the film, at times it felt like a Bond film, other times felt more like There is something about Marry !!

I mostly enjoyed the serious part of it, the mature violent kills and gory scenes, i also loved the setteing of the film that took a wide tour through European countries capturing some beautiful scenery which added much to the movie.

Action scene were pulled off with perfection, gun fights and a final fist fight not to be missed.

In short, the movie was flawed in certain areas, but was actaully pretty entertaining and worth a watch for sure, at least for Janet Mcteer's performance and some solid mature action.

Total Recall movie review

After watching the Dark Knight Rises this summer, i never thought ill watch another very good and entertaining film this same summer, but i was wrong.

after the average remake of Fright Night last year, Collin Farrel must have been worried about his second remake this year, Total Recall.
But i can safely say, that he shouldn't worry at all, because this movie delivered an enjoyable movie experience.

the plot is some what similar to the original film from the early 90s, where Farrel finds himself in a mistaken identity situation without knowing what is really going on, is he or is he not who he is ?
and so he embarks into a journey of self discovery while being chased by the ruthless Lori Quaid played by Kate Beckinsale who plays the bad guy "  or gal in this case ", again a surprise role since i never saw her in such a role.

on the other side of the coin we find Jessica Biel playing the mysterious girl who apears to be helping Farrel's character to remember who he was, or is she ?? her character wasn't that complex or difficult, and so she does a good job here.

now what really made this movie a very good one, is the none stop action, it was quiet an action packed movie with street chases, futuristic car chases, fist fights and even gun fights with very impressive visuals.

highly recommended and is actually better than the original " sorry Arnold ", not to be missed.

Dark Knight Rises movie review

Yes, and finally Batman is back in the third and final chapter of this amazing and exceptional movie franchise of the beloved superhero !!
the Dark Knight Rises was such an enjoyable movie experience, very dark with an engaging plot. I certainly felt that the 3 hours running time flew by so quickly.

As most of you know, that this film picks up around 8 years after the dark Knight events, and here we find that Batman is no more and Bruce Wayne has kept a low profile and isolated himself in his place. And only when a gruesome villain Bane starts terrorizing Gotham is what makes our Dark Knight rise again !!

a simple yet powerful plot executed with perfection by Nolan who captures the characters, the story and Gotham perfectly with just the right pace.
of course, Christian Bale plays an excellent Batman, all the critics agree that he is the best actor who ever played the role !!
and so to find a very good villain to fill the great performance of the late Heth Ledger as the Joker seemed difficult, but here comes Tom Hardy with another exceptional performance giving us another very strong and tough villain that Batman has ever faced. his voice and character will remain a classic for years to come just like what has Darth Vader had become.

I was also very skeptical  about casting Ann Hathway as Catwoman, i just didn't think she would pull it off, but i was surprised with her acting and how she owned the role, very very good.

Gary Oldman and Jordon Gordon Levitt also gave very memorable performances, so the acting was just superb all around.

the plot as i already mentioned was also very engaging, and there is also some powerful action scenes with impressive special effects, but nothing over the top like some of the latest blockbusters are !!

to me, this film owns the Avengers, and is wayyyy better than the Avengers at so many levels, and without the new and over rated 3D technology, proving that good movies don't need 3D to be good !!

Bravo Nolan, well done. I can also see an Oscar here some where ??

Intruders movie review

I am a big fan of Horror / thriller, so when i first heard about Intruders and that it started Clive Owen, I instantly got hooked and waited eagerly for the DVD release.

I must say, i was not disappointed. from the start of the movie, i immediately got hooked with the characters and the story, which involved two separate parts that later on joined together in a nice little twist.

both involved young kids in two different countries " need to watch this with subtitles " haunted by something which remained unclear for the audience at first, the kids seemed to believe that they are some sort of monster or spirit which are going after those two kids to steal their faces !!

As i mentioned earlier, i was intrigued and so was my wife whom i watched this with, the plot kept it us interested in it strongly, there was a creepy atmosphere to it and very well execute Horror like style.
It felt like an old fashioned Horror / Thriller that depended heavily on the plot and storytelling.

It reminded a bit of a recent Horror i've seen and liked as well " Don't be afraid of the dark ", with lots of stylish old fashioned creepy Horror.

One part of the movie takes place in England, where we find Clive Owen and Carice Van Houten as parents of a single little girl who is haunted by the spirits, i enjoyed this part a lot, and found the acting very superb by both Owen and Van Houten as the confused and worried parents.

the little girl played by Ema Purnell was convincing and i thought Purnell was really talented.

the other part takes place in Spain, and here its a boy who is haunted by the same spirit and is struggling with his mom to get rid of it or explain it, and of course the language spoken is Spanish, hence the subtitles.

the movie shifts between the two stories every now and then that might be annoying to some viewers i would expect.

So to make short, i thought that it was an intriguing movie, very well executed and quite entertaining, the ending however might have been better and could be the reason why some on here did not really like it, but for me, it was not bad enough to make this film a failure.

I'd say 8 out of 10

the Avengers movie review

And so the most awaited movie of the year, the Avengers is released,  and I went with the whole family to see it !!
I went in with huge expectations, and it had to be said that the movie did not let me down, however, i believe it is way too overrated and over hyped !

the movie starts out very slowly, and for the first hour or so, i felt some bordem creeping in, or was it my exuberant mood and impatience for the action to starts ?  there was just too much stretch of boring speech and slow scenes of the gathering of the Avengers in the first hour or so.

I was expecting a roller coaster of action / adventure scenes from start to finish and i guess i was slammed by the slow built it in the beginning. my two younger daughters " 5 and 6 " certainly got bored and fidgety, which added to my frustration.

Having said that, the movie is a success in what its trying to do, which is gathering all those super heroes together in one film, it was entertaining and enjoyable over the whole run. I just thought that the plot was nothing special, just your average cartoonish plot of an evil villain who wants to rule the world, the serious dialogue involving the main plot was boring and empty with no interest in it, however, when the funny scenes and dialogue jump in, its really enjoyable and pure fun.

Each of the characters had an almost equal screen time, although, the roles seems uneven with the highest importance going to Iron man, and a lot of time went into trying to explore the Black Widow and Hawkeye relationship but failing in adding any strong background about those two characters, did not feel or care much about them.

the Hulk was also sort of put on the side, not clear what his involvement was into the team, supposedly he knows much about the Gama radiation, but i was puzzled with him, at times he was completely out of control and not distinguishing between the heroes and Villains, and other times, he was completely submissive to his fellow super heroes.

It was clear that iron man was running the show, maybe the leader some how, which i liked since he is among my favorites, his quarrels with Captain America were fun and there seemed liked a power struggle between the two !!

Thor was another character put on the side, did not have a big impact other than his brother being the villain !!

Sameul L Jackson's character Nick Fury was the most annoying as the leader of the Avengers, his speeches and his overall role were useless and annoying, very frustrating and if i were a super hero, i wouldn't join a team that he leads. just an empty character.

certain parts of the plot were lame and silly, like when a certain character in the team was killed, and his death was the ultimate reason for the Avengers to finally join together was a bit too corny.

Now the good parts, because once the action starts, it really is brilliant !! some very impressive visuals and solid action scenes with the involvement of the Avengers, especially the final fight in the end, it was superb, although not entirely original " some similarities to the last Transformers movie ", still very enjoyable and the kids certainly were impressed and glued to the big screen with excitement.

So in Summary, the Avengers is not the best movie ever made, and not in anyway a masterpiece, however, it is entertaining and is original as the first film with multiple superheroes in it. the first half gets a 7 out of 10, but then the 2nd half of the movie gets a solid 9 !!

the Revenant review

Fortget about the cool poster above, this movie is no where near a good or entertaining film !!

the whole concept was ridiculous and silly, it involves a soldier named Bart who dies in Iraq and is brought to the states for his funereal, we are soon indtrodcued to a very annoying character named Joey played by an equally annoying actor Chris Wylde, who is bart's best friend and buddy, we find him giving support to Bart's girlfriend and easing her grief. only to end up sleeping with her ! some friend !!

Well, Brat some how comes back to life as an undead, a Zombie, but he retains all his human brain activity, think Death becomes her 1992, and soon the two buddies are united and embark every night into action as a dynamic vigilantes who hunt and kill bad guys, and then eath them !!

one might think, the action and scenes might actually be funny or cool, but trust me, its not,  rather a very annoying and slow paced plot, and the action is very minimal.
the film fails in being both a commedy or a Horror, just unbalanced.

the acting was mediocre, and the plot was very shallow, lacking any meaning or goal.

if you want a some what similar, but far more superior film, just go back to Death becomes her with Bruce Willis and Meryl Streep !!

the Muppets review

I was looking forward to the Muppets with much excitement, I was thinking how i used to like the older show from the 70s, and so was eager to watch this new movie with high hopes and big expectations.

However, the Muppets really let me down, I was very disappointed with this terrible terrible movie.

and where do i start to explain how bad this movie is, and what went wrong !!?
I guess everything about it was very badly done and poorly executed. there was clearly a lack of imagination and lack of Muppets magic !!

Now I know that this movie is a family one, and is mainly aimed at kids and the young ones, however, it doesn't even appeal to kids as well, in fact, my kids lost interest early on and after only a few minutes from starting the movie.

So the movie starts with an introduction to a muppet named Walter, who for some unexplained reason is living with  Humans and has a human as brother, Gary played by Jason Segel.
Walter is a big fan of the Muppets " obviously !! " and he follows the show constantly during the 70s, soon the shows stops and the Muppets are no more and are forgotten by the world, so years pass by and we are jumped to our current time, where Walter and Gary are grown up and are ready to take a trip to Los Angeles to visit the Muppets studios and bring back the Muppets to life !!

Jason Segel was just not made for a role like this, he does not have the talent of a dancing and lively performer needed for such a role, and he looked uninterested as ever !! his acting looked so fake and unreal, even his photo on the poster above demonstrates that !!

we are also introduced to Gary's love interest and girlfriend, Mary played by Amy Adams, and here the love story is devoid of any believable emotions and is as boring as ever. I think the character development was poorly done for these two main characters and so no real attachment from the viewers towards them.

And while Amy was slightly better than Segel here, she still looked uninterested and her character lacked the charm needed. probably not Amy's fault but rather to the lack of creativity in character development in the script.

speaking of characters, almost every Muppet is brought back here, which might be a bad thing, because so much characters were squeezed into the film not allowing enough time for viewers to connect to certain Muppet characters. It was clearly aimed at focusing on Kermit, but even him was rushed into the film quickly without explanation to where he was and why he is living the way he was all  alone.

the plot was flat and silly, with a mixture of the Muppets reuniting and struggling to get back into show business and having to have to deal with an evil rich businessman who wants to take over the Muppet studios and turn it into some oil producing company or whatever. that villain role went to Chris Cooper, who also seemed out of place here and was one of the worst villains of all time in movie history, a Cliche of a villain with the obvious " ill get you Muppets " and " I will destroy the Muppets " lines !

It was clear that the people behind the movie were concentrating more on which celebrity to bring in as a Cameo rather than focusing on the plot. there were plenty of Cameo appearances including Selena Gomez and Zack Galifiankis which did not add anything special to the film.

the worst part of the film, is as i mentioned, the lack on imagination, magic and life in the movie. the dances and songs seemed lifeless and lacking the magic or spirit needed for such movies. it ended up dull and very very boring.

sorry to say this, but this gets a fat zero, avoid it !!

Seeking Justice review " Nicolas Cage's comback "

After a number of  really bad movies for Nicolas Cage recently, which included Ghost rider 2 and Drive Angry, I was having low expectations for Seeking Justice, however, the title and plot summary drew me to it as well as the rest of the cast which included Guy Pearce and January Jones " Emma Frost from X-men first class ".

the movie was much better than i expected, especially after reading some poor reviews on it, the characters were interesting enough, and the plot was an intriguing thriller that kept me attentive enough and never bored.

you would expect the usual from Cage, nothing special yet entertaining with his own kind of charisma. other actors were very good too, Guy Pearce played his character pretty well. some very cool action scenes added some exciting parts to the movie.

plot : After his wife Laura " Jones " is assaulted, a husband and teacher Will Gerrard " Cage " enlists the services of a vigilante group lead by Simon " Guy Pearce " to help him settle the score. Then he discovers they want a favor from him in return.

in short, an enjoyable action thriller movie with an above average plot and an entertainment performance from Cage, arguably, its Nic Cage's comeback film !!!

Chloe Moretz Latest

MGM and Screen Gems have set Chloe Moretz for the lead role in a remake of Brian DePalma's CARRIE that was based on the 1974 Stephen King bestseller.

According to Deadline, She will play the shy high school student Carrie White, who is raised by a religiously fanatic mother, and comes to grip with devastating telepathic powers just as she reaches puberty. She eventually uses those gifts in a lethal way when fellow classmates humiliate her during prom before the entire school.

Moretz, who appeared in HUGO, KICK-ASS and LET ME IN, will be seen next in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows.

Well, she is growing up quickly, I just hope she don't lose that cute babay face of hers during that process !! I mean look at what happened to Macaulay Culkin !!

the Descendants movie review

I was not really all that excited to watch the Descendants, for some reason i was feeling dull towards it, and to be honest, im not the big of a fan of Clooney.
In fact, I have always thought he was an over rated actor, at least not of an Oscar caliber. However, it has to be said, he really surprised me here, and proved me wrong.

What i liked most about the Descendants were the characters, the movie has one of the best characters i have seen in film, they seemed so real and portrayed human emotions with excellence. And all the credit for such loveable and brilliant characters goes the actors playing them, Clooney and the rest of the cast, including Shailene Woodley who plays Clooney's older daughter Alex King were all superb, even the young actress Amara Miller impressed me with her acting.

And while the story sounded a bit familiar, it was presented and executed in a fresh manner and used the Hawaiian history and locations as a central theme around which the plot took place.

In short, the story centers around Matthew King " Clooney " whom his wife is in deep a coma after a boating accident, and the movie explores Matthew's emotions and him coping with this tragedy. To make things worse, Matthew discovers his wife was actually having an affair before her accident which initiates a complex and mixed emotions. the movie also brings King's daughters into the mix and their interactions  with their grieving and angry father.

Quite and interesting plot with as i mentioned some very loveable and at times funny characters, the pace was steady and at times slow, but never boring.

Going back to Clooney, he was excellent and deserved the Oscar nomination.

highly recommended film. 9 out of 10

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy movie review

I was having some really high hopes for " Tinker Tailor..", because A) I am a fan of Garry Oldman who has an Oscar nomination for his role here, B) I like spy based films, and C) it had what it seems to be a solid cast
but I was hugely disappointed with this film.
now i knew before hand that it was a drama and had no action scenes, and that it was nothing like James Bond movies, and i had no problems with that because I really do enjoy most movies, even ones that moves in slow pace.
I just recently finished watching
Melancholia which was not a Spy film, but was very slow paced like Tinker Tailor and more of an artistic film which is not for everyone to appreciate, but i found it very enjoyable.

Sadly, Tinker Tailor was really really boring, it was slow paced and its major problem was that it was confusing and difficult to follow, I didn't know what was going on half the time, and nor how Smiley found the russian mole !
scenes were jumping from one place to another, and flashbacks were suddenly dropped within current events in the film adding much to the confusion,
I didn't read the book nor watch the TV series, which might have helped, but, if someone had to read the book to understand the movie, then the movie is a failure !

Now Gary Oldman deserves the nomination, his acting was top notch, and i also found the 70s feel to the film quite impressive, but the script really ruined the whole film for me despite these positive points.

the other main characters, including the ones played by Colin Firth, John Hurt and Mark Strong were poorly developed and seemed empty, i got lost between them,

there is a fine line between an intelligent film and a confusing one, and while Tinker Tailor tried to be some what intelligent, it fell short and ended up being a pile of muddiness,
don't get me wrong, i like films that tries to make you think and don't spell all the story out for you, but this one makes you dull rather than thinking because of its unclear confusing plot.
avoid it

Mirror Mirror Song..

Nice song from the movie Mirror Mirror, " I Believe in love ", I quite enjoyed the film, very cute family movie that i found joy while watching with my kids, a new take at Snow White, and the actress playing her was very good. not to mention cute.

I highly recommend this film to enjoy with your family !!

the Hunger Games Review

Well, much hype was given to this movie, and after watching it, i have to say that it is a bit disappointing, and probably aimed at teens as the target audience.

Now the films starts out pretty well, and Jennifer Lawrence starts by playing a character similar to her character from Winter's Bone, a young independent woman named Katniss Everdeen who takes care of her family.

the movie moves at a pretty decent pace, and we move with Katniss as she witnesses the draw for the Hunger games from her village, the movie takes too much time in details through the transportation, preparation and training for the hunger games, which was a slow build up with aim of building up tension in the veiwers, i certainly couldn't wait for the games to start.

finally, and after like one hour, the games started, and here is where the film fails in my opinion, as many has mentioned, a film the centers around games with killings should be rated R and not PG 13 like this film's rating !!! not a lot of action, not a lot of fights, not a lot of brutality. in short, quite disappointing in action and events.

However, I can see some who might still find something to enjoy in the Hunger Games, some good Drama, good characters, and probably, very entertaining for the teens.

I never read the books, so i really can't compare the film to the book.

in short, if you are looking for a solid and brutal thriller film like Battle Royale, then you will most likely be diappointed, but if you are 12 years of age then you'll probably enjoy it.

Immortals review

So I was wating anxiously for the Blu ray of Immortals to arrive in the post, and finally, it got here !
I immediately sat and started watching with excitment. I have to say, it was really enjoyable.

the story about the Greek gods and them watching over humans who are constantly in war, not willing to interfere was interesting. Henry Cavil, who will be playing Superman in the up coming Man of steel film, plays the role of a peasant here named Theseus who seems to have quite the fighting skills in him, but refuses to engage in any battles, untill he is forced to !! and it seems the Gods are watching over him.

it is visually impressive as well, with vivid colors and beautiful scenery of mountains and the ocean. the battle scenes were also interesting, however, were a bit limited me thinks.

I was not really happy at first with lead actress here Frieda Pinto, but she did grow on me with time and i found myslef accepting here. Mickey Rourke was very good as the evil villian.

generally, it was quite enjoyable, much better than i was expecting. i just hope people stop comparing it to 300, as they are both two different films.

Drive review

Finally watched this last night, I found it to be entertaining for the most part, only it was a bit slow paced. the plot is nothing new, which involves a professional driver that falls for a single mom whom her husband is in prison, and just as their relationship is about to flourish, her husband is back and is involved in big problems with some gangsters.
Ryan Gosling is pretty good here, but i do think the role was some what an easy one, playing a cold and calm driver who smiles a lot ;)
some pretty good action, though i did expect more action ! it turned out more of a drama. which isn't a bad thing.

7.5 out of 10

RESIDENT EVIL 5 Retribution Trailer - 2012 Movie -

Can't wait for this one..looks awesome !!

the Artist review

I think by now, everyone who is into the entertainment business or follows film and movie news already knows that the Artist is the movie that one big at the Oscars this year.
Not only did it win the Oscar for best picture, but also, the best actor in a leading role went to Jean Dujardin, and deservedly so.

Once I heard that the movie was about Silent movies, I must admit I wasn't that excited to see it, especially that i don't know any of the leading roles before. But once I started watching it in a weekday night with almost half an empty theater, I immediately started getting hooked with the plot and the characters.

the two lead actors, Jean Dujardin and Berenice Bejo are one of the most talented actors i have ever seen in film. they were brilliant and brought their characters to life depending only on their body language and acting. the movie which is about a successful silent movie actor, who starts to suffer when Hollywood starts the transition to sound movie making, and follows his struggling and difficulty to adapt to this change, meanwhile, a rising star who starts progressing into fame through this change, and the on and off silent love develops between the two during these times.
it was such a great experience for me, and quite a new one as well, I was completely lost into the film and bonded with the characters. the chemistry between the two was rattling.

I definitely became an instant fan of the two leads, especially Jean who reminded me a lot with one of my favorite actors Sean Connery in his facial features, his looks and his body language as well.

not the best two pictures of the two, but one can notice the slight resemblance between the two !
Jean does seem like a younger version of Sean !!

Puss in Boots

Watched this with the kids, I enjoyed it thoroughly, and the kids were glued to the screen as well. What i liked the most about it, is that it appeals for both adults and young ones, it was executed in a very professional manner, and was balanced just right to be suitable for both the old and the young.

the movie is basically a tale of Puss' start, how he came to be, and the story behind his character, adding to it lots of action and adventure, and the movie never drags, with the right amount of pace.
new loveable characters were added here, Kitty voiced by the charming Salma Hayek was an attractive and interesting love interest for Puss, but she is not your regular female cat as she has some very exceptional skills as well, think a Bond type if girl.

Visually, it was spectacular, everthing was done so perfectly it appears so real, one of the best visually imoressive CGI films i have seen, the texture, the colors and characters, all done so professionaly, Bravo to the animators and people behind it.

I'd say 8.5 out of 10,

This means war movie review

Well, I'm not a big fan of Action comedies, further more, not a fan of Reese Witherspoon, and I'm not familiar with Chris Pine nor Tom Hardy, so one might understand my hesitation to go and watch this. So I was with a friend, and we decided to watch a catch a movie together, and he was so pushing to watch this, so i went in with very low expectations.

To tell the truth though, the movie did surprise me, it was much better than I was expecting, and the whole Spy vs Spy, where both the two CIA agents fighting for the love of one woman concept actually worked. it was a funny and hilarious, and i think what worked most and made this successful is the glowing chemistry between the three lead actors. they all seemed comfortable in their roles, and seemed to really have fun making this film.

the film is as expected from its genre, does not take anything seriously, it is just pure fun, and the plot is quite simple and I'm sure most already know what it is about. the two Spies start using some of their skills and resources from working with the CIA to help get closer to Reese's character and win her love, from surveillance cameras to special spy gadgets which adds more to the fun.

So if you have nothing else to do, or are a big fan of these types of films, than i strongly recommend it, and it would be more suitable to attend with your special one, I do believe it is much fun for couples to go and catch this film.

I'd say 8 out of 10

John Cusak latest

Love this guy !!

So his latest news, is that he finished shooting his latest film the Number Station, which is an action / thriller film, who also stars Watchmen actress Malin Akerman.
Cusak plays a CIA operative whos assigned to guard a code operative " Akerman " in England, when they are surprised by an attack.
So it seems Cusak is back for some action, takes us back to his Con air, Grosse Pointe Blank and the Contract days !!

I'm also excited to see him along side Akerman, I really liked her on Watchmen and i recently saw her along side Bruce Willis in Catch 44. she has that attractive cute little face !!

Martha Marcy May Marlene

Spent the evening watching this film, I finished it and it left me with mixed feelings. There is no denying that it was some what fresh with a new idea, quite original I'd say.

the story is that of a young girl Martha " played by Elizabeth Olsen ", who tries adapting to her life with her family after fleeing a group of a wierd cult whom she lived with for about two years.
its quite an original concept, at least for me, as the director takes us back into Martha's past while living with the cult in flashbacks, I usually am not a big fan of films that relies heavily on flashbacks, i feel it disrupts the stream of the film, however, the director executed it skillfully.

the film was more of a character study, something I like very much in movies since my work involves analyzing people and the way they think. the character of Martha was very intriguing to me as she goes through her inner struggle trying to adapt to a normal life after the strange and bizzare practices she witnessed and participated in with that cult group. she was clearly damaged.

Elizabeth Olsen, the younger sister of Ashley and Mary - kate Olsen, the rich twins known from the 80s - 90s family T.v series Full House, was surprisngly good here, I've never seen her before in any work, and so I never thought she's that good, especially with a complex character like Martha. Bravo..I predict a bright future for her in movies.

Now why the mixed feelings ? well, it was a bit depressing and while i enjoyed the character of Martha and was impressed by the concept of the film, it moved in a very slow pace. the director spends a lot of time in certain scenes that could have easily been edited for a faster pace, but i can understand why, as he wants the audience feel the reality of the scenes, and i think he succeeds in doing so. however, certain scenes were too long.

In the end, I was surprised with this film, in a good a way, it was different, focusing on the character and the inner struggle, but it didn't leave me with a good feeling for a number of reasons. I also don't think this film is for everyone, people might feel bored with the slow pace, especially those who are looking for a Thriller or a Horror.
I'd say 8 out of 10

Zoe Saldana's latest

Is she or isn't she Hot ?!

Zoe Saldana is in early talks to join Christian Bale in the "gritty throwback to 1970s movie" OUT OF THE FURNACE for Relativity Media, Variety reports.
Formerly known as "The Low Dweller," the film centers on "a man released after serving four years in prison. His hopes for a peaceful homecoming are thwarted when his younger brother is brutally murdered and he sets out for revenge."
Saldana is in talks to play Bale's ex-wife, a waitress now married to the town sheriff. Robert Duvall is expected to play Bale's uncle, and Viggo Mortensen is circling the role of the villain, while several actors remain in the mix to play Bale's brother, says the Trade.

Beneath the Darkness review

Hey all !!

So as you can see above, the poster of the movie, it is quite attractive with Dennis Quaid's face looking so grisly !! would you not at least give this one a rental based on the poster alone ?

Well, I've just finished watching it, and let me start by saying, that this movie is not a Horror, it is more of a Thriller, and i'm more of Thrillers fan anyways, so that is a good thing.

Unfortunately, not all Thrillers are good, and this movie, is not that good to be honest.
the Plot in short, involves a group of teens in a small town in Texas, who become interested in a widowed and mysterious local mortician " played by Quaid ", they start to nose around his house and dicover a deadly secret that might cause them their lives. Ooooooh
Does not sound original, does it ? think Fright night ! or Disturbia !
Not only is the plot not original, but the acting is nothing special from the actors supporting Quaid. Quaid himself is very good, though he does seem uncomfortable playing a mysterious evil guy. but those new comer actors did not impress at all. I know, I know..who cares about acting in this, its not like its an Oscar nominated film !!  true, but other elements of the movie did not stand out too. as I mentioned earlier, nothing original about the plot, the fact is its very similar to the two movies i mentioned earlier.

the Film is rated R, yet it lacked any gory scenes or even sex scenes for that matter, it did seem like a PG 13 film to me. Not that im a big fan of Nudity or Sex scenes but come on, spice it up a little !

One of the main reasons I watched this, obviously, was Quaid, I like the guy, and i enjoy watching his films, but i'm really not sure why he agreed to star in this on a budget average thriller ?!?!
If you guys missed on a lot of Quaid's recent films, then I recommend these films : LEgion, Pandorum and Horsemen.

Hugo review

Is it me or is Hugo a bit overrated ? this film has won a number of Oscar awards, not sure but I think five of them, and has been recieving a lot of positive reviews from all over

I just finished watching it on Blu Ray, and I really can't see what all the fuss is about ?! I can see that it looks really good, and it has some very good cinematography and costume designs, the acting by the two lead kids were also impressive for their age. However, despite those positive aspects, the movie fails in my opinion to capture the interest of the audience, mainly, because of the slow pace and the some what unoriginal plot

As you can see on the Blu ray picture above, a quote of it being a Masterpiece, well, I have to disagree that it isn't in anyway up to a masterpiece level of entertainment in my opinion, but I do understand why some poeple might enjoy it

I say 7.5 out of 10
